Teaching Assistant

Job Description:

The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the lead teacher in carrying out the philosophy of Maria Montessori and Village Montessori for up to 15 children aged 18 months to 3 years. The assistant teacher is responsible for maintaining a clean and prepared classroom environment, helping to keep the classroom organized and most importantly maintaining a kind and loving demeanor. This position is Monday through Friday, 7:45am to 4:15pm each day, with a ½ hour for lunch.

Examples of daily duties include:

  • Helping children to settle into the classroom to begin the day
  • Replenishing classroom supplies such as grains, soaps, tissues, and paper
  • Straightening lessons on shelves
  • Keeping work periods orderly and quiet
  • Quietly redirecting disruptive children or situations
  • Preparing snacks
  • Maintaining open communication with lead teacher and teaching aides
  • Maintaining written communication with teacher via classroom journal
  • Attending to needs of children including hand/face washing, diapers, toileting, changing soiled clothing
  • Documenting and reporting all injuries
  • Maintaining sanitary conditions throughout day in bathroom area

There will be a few times throughout the year when the assistant teacher will also be required to help organize and attend Village Montessori events including open houses and special activities.

Qualifications:

  • Previous Montessori experience is a plus; previous childcare experience is a necessity (please be prepared to provide three references).
  • All employees of Village Montessori are required to complete a criminal background check including fingerprints, an Arkansas Child Maltreatment Central Registry check, and an INS Employment Eligibility Form I-9.
  • Employees must familiarize themselves with the Arkansas Department of Human Services minimum licensing requirements for childcare facilities.

Substitute Teacher

Job Description:

The Substitute Teacher will serve in an “on call” capacity to step in and facilitate operations of the classroom in the event that the Lead Teacher, Teaching Assistant, or Teaching Aide is unable to be at work. The Substitute Teacher will work closely with the staff in carrying out the philosophy of Maria Montessori and Village Montessori for children aged 18 months to 6 years. The Substitute Teacher will be responsible for maintaining order and working with students to keep the schedule of activities as set by the Lead Teacher. These duties also include filling in as needed in the classroom, answering the phone, talking to parents as needed, and maintaining a kind and loving demeanor. The Substitute Teacher must be flexible and help aid the teachers and assistants in the classrooms. The aide may be asked to run errands, as needed.

  • Helping in classroom as needed
  • Quietly redirecting disruptive children or situations
  • Keeping work periods orderly and quiet

  • Attending to the needs of children including hand/face washing, diapers, toileting, changing soiled clothing

  • Relaying parent questions/concerns to the appropriate lead teacher or head of school
