there are two equinoxes every year: one around March 21 and another around
September 22.</div>\n<div></div>\n<div>Sometimes\, the equinoxes are nick

 spring equinox) and the “<a class='tipHelp' title='autumnal equinox'>autum
nal equinox</a>” (fall equinox)\, although these have different dates in t
he Northern and Southern Hemispheres.  The March equinox is the vernal equ
inox in the Northern Hemisphere\, and the autumnal equinox in the Southern
. The September equinox is the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere
and the vernal in the Southern.</div>\n<div></div>\n<div><strong>The Scie

 quator\, of course\, is 0° latitude.)</div>\n<div></div>\n<div>So\, equino
xes are the only times of the year when the subsolar point is directly on
the Equator. The subsolar point is an area where the sun’s rays shine <a c
 lass='tipHelp' title='perpendicular'>perpendicular</a> to the Earth’s surf

 an equinox is the Earth’s 23.5° <a class='tipHelp' title='axis'>axis</a> <

he Sun’s disk is in the same <a class='tipHelp' title='plane'>plane</a> as
the Equator.</div>\n<div></div>\n<div>Before and after the equinox\, the
subsolar point migrates north or south. After the March equinox\, the subs
olar point migrates north as the Northern Hemisphere tilts toward the sun.
Around June 21\, the subsolar point hits the <a class='tipHelp' title='Tr
opic of Cancer'>Tropic of Cancer</a>\, (23.5°N). This is the June <a class
='tipHelp' title='solstice'>solstice</a>\, after which the subsolar point
begins to migrate south. After the September equinox\, the subsolar point
continues to move south as the Southern Hemisphere tilts toward the sun. A
round December 21\, the subsolar point hits the <a class='tipHelp' title='
Tropic of Capricorn'>Tropic of Capricorn</a> (23.5°S). This is the Decembe

 s are as close to this <a class='tipHelp' title='phenomenon'>phenomenon</a

div>As a result\, areas near Earth’s Equator experience relatively constan

May Day?</p>\n<p>The Beltane festival is a living\, dynamic reinterpretati
on and modernisation of an ancient Iron Age Celtic ritual and is the large
st of its kind. Having been resurrected as a practice in 1988 it has becom
e a central focus for our community\, bringing many many people together t
o acknowledge and revel in the birth of the Summer and the fertility of th
e land. It is important to note that the purpose of our festival is not to
recreate ancient practices but to continue in the spirit of our ancient f
orebears and create our own connection to the cycles of nature.</p>\n<p>Fo

 day</p>\n<p>A brief history of Mardi Gras…</p>\n<p>133-31 B.C.</p>\n<div c
lass='text_exposed_show'>\n<p>Some think Mardi Gras may be linked[2] with
the ancient Roman pagan celebrations of spring and fertility such as Satur
nalia\, which dates back to 133–31 B.C. This celebration honored the god o
f agriculture\, Saturn. It was observed in mid-December\, before the sowin
g of winter crops. It was a week-long festival when work and business came
to a halt. Schools and courts of law closed\, and the normal social patte
rns were suspended.</p>\n<p>On the Julian calendar\, which the Romans used
at the time\, the winter solstice fell on December 25. Hence\, the celebr
ation gradually became associated with Christmas.</p>\n<p>4 B.C. Onward</p
 >\n<p>The festival is more commonly associated with Christian tradition. I
n the Gospel of Matthew the biblical Magi (also called the ‘Three Wise Men
’ or ‘Three Kings’) visited Jesus with gifts containing gold\, frankincens
e\, and myrrh. So on the twelfth day of Christmas\, Christians celebrate t
he feast of Epiphany\, a celebration of Jesus coming for more than just th
e Jews\, as even Gentile magi were allowed to see him. This begins the Car
nival celebration which continues until the day before Ash Wednesday. The
culmination of this celebration overlapped with the beginning of Lent. Ear
ly Christians believed that during the Lenten season (the forty days betwe
en Ash Wednesday and Easter\, not including Sundays)\, Christians should d
eprive themselves of anything (especially foods) that brought joy so that
they might understand better the trials that Jesus faced leading up to his
death on Good Friday. Thus\, on the Tuesday before Lent and the last day
of Epiphany\, Christians would celebrate with a feast of their favorite fo
ods to tide them over the coming weeks.</p>\n<p>These feasts\, which first
were only meant for Christians\, were expanded so that Christians would c
elebrate with their neighbors and friends. Slowly\, feasts like Shrove Tue
sday became public celebrations and adapted many names and traditions as t
 hey spread.</p>\n<p>Source: <a href='https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3
